Providence Englewood and the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA)
To be in accordance with the Children’s Internet Safety Act (CIPA) requirements:
- Access by minors to inappropriate materials
- Safety and security of minors when using e-mail,
chat rooms, and other electronic communications - Unauthorized access by minors online
- Unauthorized disclosure of personal information regarding minors
- Measures to restrict minor’s access to materials harmful to minors
Providence Englewood Charter School has taken these measures to address student internet safety.
- Chromebooks are lent by Providence Englewood for the students’ use.
- Students are given unique usernames and passwords in order to log in to a Chromebook.
- Chromebooks lent by PECS to the students are set to only open when using a PECS domain (@pecs.k12.il.us) username.
- Once logged in with their PECS username and password PECS can block the Chromebook’s access to inappropriate websites.
- Chromebooks logged in using a PECS username and password are set to safe browsing.
- Chromebooks have antivirus built-in.
- Our network is protected by Sophos antivirus.
- Our network has a firewall with a strong web filtering module to block objectionable material.
- Providence Englewood employs an application called “GoGuardian” to monitor what the Students can access.
- GoGuardian is used to further filter objectionable sites and searches, track Chromebooks, and disable users.
- Student browsing history cannot be erased.
